Sandra Rose Simmons
A writer drawn to the quiet struggles, unexpected turns, difficult choices, and moments of grace that shape a life.
Sandra Rose Simmons has long been drawn to the stories people carry—the quiet struggles, unexpected turns, difficult choices, and moments of grace that shape a life. Her interest in creative writing began in high school, but her path to authorship unfolded through a varied professional life that included work as a teacher, social worker, administrator, and consultant.
Those years placed her close to people in transition and gave her a lasting fascination with resilience, relationships, and the search for meaning.
That human perspective became the foundation of her fiction. Sandra is interested and compassionate about the lives of people tested by change. Her characters wrestle with uncertainty, reinvention, family, work, love, fear, and the question of how to move forward when life no longer resembles what they expected.
At the heart of her stories is a belief that growth often begins in the very moments when certainty falls away.
Finding a voice through fiction
Her debut novel, Moon Glow, was published in 2016. The book follows a woman facing professional upheaval, emotional uncertainty, family concerns, and the challenge of building a life that feels genuinely meaningful.
Through that story, Sandra began exploring many of the themes that continue to define her work: self-discovery, anxiety, relationships, personal courage, and the difficult but necessary work of becoming more fully oneself.
Sandra has also written short fiction and personal narratives. Her short story The Hobo Shack won the 2017 Tempe Community Writing Contest for adult fiction and appeared in Tempe Writers Forum, Volume 3.
In 2025, her true story Riding the River, inspired by her experiences tubing in Arizona, was published in The Blue Guitar by the Arizona Consortium for the Arts.
These shorter works reveal another side of her voice—observant, reflective, and attentive to the small details that turn experience into story.
Friendship as refuge and catalyst
Her latest novel, Four Fabulous Friends, published in 2026, brings together four women whose friendship becomes an anchor through careers, relationships, motherhood, financial hardship, illness, and personal reinvention.
The novel reflects Sandra’s enduring interest in the bonds people form and the ways friendship can become both refuge and catalyst—a place where people are seen clearly enough to change.
Sandra remains engaged with Arizona’s literary community through author events, book fairs, festivals, and writers’ conferences. These gatherings reflect not only her commitment to sharing her work with readers, but also her continued curiosity about the craft of writing and the evolving world of publishing.
Across her novels, short stories, and personal writing, Sandra Rose Simmons returns again and again to a central question: How do people become more fully themselves when life asks them to begin again?
Her work explores the answer through characters who stumble, adapt, connect, and persevere—not because their lives are easy, but because they continue to search for purpose, hope, and meaning within them.
For Sandra, storytelling is ultimately about connection. It is a way of looking closely at another life and recognizing something of our own.
